New York Doctor Pins Bankruptcy on Expensive Divorce Lawsuit

by San Antonio Attorney

An ex-top doctor whose list of patients included actress Suzanne Summers and New York Gov. George Pataki has declared bankruptcy, blaming his ex-wife for his financial problems.

According to Dr. Eric Braverman, who specializes in anti-aging treatments, he was successful for many years. He founded the Park Avenue Path Medical Center, his court filing showed.

The 59-year old doctor said a bitter and very contentious divorce proceeding in 2011 totally exhausted his finances. It was his third divorce, which involved his ex-wife Darya Braverman.

Braverman spent $5 million in the divorce lawsuit, he said. He listed in his Chapter 11 petition that he has an estimated $20 million debts and $10.6 million worth of assets.

Darya Braverman’s lawyer, Bettin Hindin, believes the doctor sought for bankruptcy protection to avert paying spousal support, which he counted at over $500,000 in unpaid obligations.

Hindin said in spite of the doctor’s claims of financial distress he has told the court that he just recently enjoyed a vacation in a Caribbean island.

Braverman claims he’s been depicted as a villain all through the divorce process.

The doctor was investigated in 2014 for allegedly deceiving patients by telling them that medical tests costing $10,000 to $100,000 would be covered mostly by insurance. He settled the charges.

In 2015, he was sentenced to fifteen days in prison for attempting to gain access to private custody papers related to his divorce from Darya.

Last year, a woman accused him of groping and he pleaded guilty.

Braverman’s lawyer, Kevin Nash, announced that his client is currently preparing for a comeback.
