A Voce Columbus Owner Gets Court Approval to Close

by San Antonio Attorney

The once popular Italian Restaurant located at the Time Warner Center has halted its operations last Tuesday.  This came after Marlon Abela, a co-owner who filed for bankruptcy, got the approval from court after a stormy bankruptcy proceeding.

Once a fine dining restaurant, the restaurant has experience a rapid deterioration.  It lost its hard-earned Michelin star, accumulated unpaid rent and has not been able to generate huge revenue for the past years.

MARC, a company based in London and owned by Abela, managed the restaurant along with Related Realty, a TWC Management.

Abela and Ken Himmel have attempted to reinvent the restaurant, in hopes of restoring its former glory.  However, an unexpected conflict between Abela and Himmel barred this process.  Abela filed for bankruptcy without informing Himmel.

Related Realty filed a petition to halt bankruptcy but eventually agreed to let it move forward, according to the court filing.  The bankruptcy filing was finally approved on Tuesday and a trustee was appointed to close A Voce as part of the process of bankruptcy filing.

Abela emphasized that it is not only the A Voce restaurant, which has experienced struggles.  Himmel, was rumored to be concentrating on another project located at the Hudson Yards.

Another speculation is the sudden hiring of François Payard by Abela in another project.  This rumor came into light as the well-renowned pastry chef resigned from his post of eponymous bakeries.  A Voce patrons should not worry though as another branch in Madison Avenue is still maintaining operations.

As for the vacancy in Time Warner Center, other restaurants have expressed interest in occupying the space.  A spokeswoman stated that the New York restaurant scene is evolving and a new restaurant named ‘The Restaurant and Bar Collection’ is hiring new chefs and creating new cuisine for the customers.
